Fibromyalgia is a rheumatic condition which causes increased sensitivity to pain, tender trigger points, muscle stiffness, fatigue, brain fog, headaches, IBS, candida, hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, poor circulation and depression. Fibromyalgia is more common in women and typically develops between the ages of 25 and 55. The cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but scientists think it has something to do with abnormal levels of chemicals in the brain and a change of how the brain processes pain signals. Fibromyalgia is usually triggered by a stressful life event such as childbirth, a bereavement, an operation or a breakup.
Conventional Treatment Although there's currently no cure for fibromyalgia, there are treatments to help relieve some of the symptoms and make the condition easier to live with:
exercise programmes and relaxation techniques
cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT)
painkillers
