GLUCOSAMINE

> natural compound found in cartilage (tissue which cushions joints).

> classified as an amino sugar.

> also found in shellfish shells, animal bones, and fungi.

> supplements are often made from these natural sources.

> glucosamine and chondroitin have been shown to inhibit the activation of inflammatory pathways in human synovial cells. These cells are responsible for producing synovial fluid components, or joint fluid.

> anti-inflammatory effects have been associated with a lower risk of conditions mediated by inflammation, like type 2 diabetes

> Osteoarthritis - glucosamine sulfate provides pain relief and may also help slow knee joint degeneration.

> Rheumatoid arthritis - glucosamine hydrochloride may reduce pain.

!!  taking glucosamine sulfate and paracetamol together might reduce the effectiveness of both the supplement and medication !!

!! taking glucosamine (+ chondroitin) might increase the effects of the anticoagulant warfarin. This can increase your risk of bleeding!!
